6-27-11 Scribner Plastics Debuts New Bodyline Rear Wheel Protection

BodyLine Rear Bumper Now Available

Scribner Plastics announced that after more than two years of development the BodyLine Rear Wheel Protection for Sprint Karts is now available. Rick Scribner, President and CEO of Scribner Plastics, stated "We studied the aerodynamic effects of the existing rear bumpers and refined our design to flow air in a much more efficient manor. Chris Scribner, our Plant Manager and in-house driver was key in our testing".

The bumper is rotationally molded from extremely durable polyethylene and available in several colors. The light weight design has dual mounting patterns that mounts to most existing kart hardware.

Chris Scribner, a 7-time IKF Grand National Champion and 2008 Stars of Karting West Coast Champion commented "I felt that the existing rear bumpers on the market had an aero drag. We concentrated on moving the air past and through the bumper but keeping the full width protection and durability."

Scribner Plastics of Rancho Cordova, CA manufactures two styles of Sprint Kart bodywork, Kart Engine Shipping Containers, Utility Jugs and the Link Barrier System for indoor and outdoor kart tracks.

If you would like more information on the Scribner Plastics BodyLine Rear Bumper or any of the other products mentioned please call Rick or Chris Scribner at 800-552-5847 or email to info@scribnerplastics.com

8-22-11 Red Line Oil Karting Championship Race #5 Recap: 125 Shifters and Mini-Max share the Limelight

Jason Toft took home $600 for the win in S2

A pleasant sunny day helped make for a great day with some great racing at the Red Line Oil Karting Championship Race #5. Several of the Prokart racers drove most of the night from Buttonwillow to take in the nice weather (it was 105 degrees at Buttonwillow) and to take on the tight Sprint track layout as a $1000 cash purse was up for graps. The GoPro featured race was the Rotax Mini-Max class.

Featured Race: Sanzaru Games Rotax Mini-Max

The field may have been lean with 5 karts, but it was 5 of the strongest karts that have run the RLOKC series this year. In Qualify, Toni Breidinger put her kart on the pole ahead of sister Annie and points leader Michael Michoff. But on the warm up lap of Heat #1, Toni had to pit to tighten the gas cap allowing Annie to take over pole with Michoff alongside. On the start, Michoff won the drag race to turn one and was never challenged winning by 6 seconds over Annie with Horatio Fitz-Simon in 3rd. In the second heat, Toni lead the field into turn one and was leading the field at the end on lap one. But Toni went too hard into turn one and had to take to the dirt and fell back to 5th. Annie and Michoff then battled for the remaining 7 laps with Annie leading most of the way. But going into the last turn of the white flag lap, Michoff tried an inside pass that was too late to avoid center punching Annie. Annie had to settle for 2nd but was awarded the win based on the call of the race director. Michoff was 2nd and Horatio 3rd. In the Main, the front row was Annie on pole and Michoff alongside. On the start, Annie took the lead out of turn one and lead the first 14 laps. But Michoff pushed hard in the later laps and got to Annie's rear bumper and with 4 turns to go in the race he made his move at the hairpin where he dove to the inside. Some hard rubbing occurred and with Michoff coming out in the lead with Annie right behind. Michoff went on for a narrow margin victory, Annie Breidinger took 2nd and Horatio Fitz-Simon holding off the challenges from Toni Breidinger to take 3rd. With the win, Michoff took home the GoPro HD hero mini camera and $50 cash from Sanzaru games, Annie took home $30 cash and Horatio $20.

Next month the GoPro Feature race will be the 125 Shifter, both S2 and S4.

125 Shifter - S2 and S4

With $1000 on the line, the largest field of the year in the 125 Shifters catergory, 15 karts, took to the track. In Qualify, the first 5 positions on the grid were S2 karts led by Brett Buckwalter, Jason Toft and Daniel Langon. The top S4 was David Arstein in 6th overall followed by Jim Inglebright in 7th and Brad Shaffer in 8th. Toft took the lead from the drop of the green followed by Buckwalter and Langon. Arnstein was a clear winner in S4 followed by Inglebright and Shaffer. In Heat #2, Buckwakter took the initial lead but Toft out broke Brett at the end of the rear straight to take control of the race and win the pole for the Main. Brett came home 2nd with Langon taking another 3rd. The S4 battle heated up with Brad Shaffer working his way past both Inglebright and Arnstein to take the S4 class win, Arnstein 2nd and Inglebright 3rd. The Main got off to a bad start as 5 karts tangled in turn one with one kart partially on top of Arnstein. A red flag was brought out due to the blocked track. The end result was the elimination of Cory Milne and Arnstein having to repair his kart and starting from the rear of the grid on the restart. On the restart, Toft took the lead with Buckwalter right behind and Langon sitting in the wings waiting for the leaders to tangle. Cameron Pringle moved up from his 11th starting spot and into 4th place by lap 6, but he pulled off on lap 7 to end his challenge. In the S4 class, Inglebright lead Shaffer, Jim Kidd with Arnstein working his way through the field from his 14th starting position. Buckwatler could not come close enough to make a challenge and in the end Toft took the win less than a second ahead of Buckwalter with Langon in 3rd. The next eight positions were S4 karts with Jim Inglebright taking the win ahead of Shaffter, Kidd and Arnstein now up to 7th place. For the S2 win, Toft took home $600 cash, Inglebright took home the $200 S4 cash with David Arnstein taking home $200 cash for the Hard Charger award.

Dave Arnstein took home $200 for the hard charger award

All TaGs - Senior TaG, IAME TaG and Junior TaG

13 karts took to the track to continue the string of 10 plus kart fields. In Qualify, the top 3 drivers came in from the Prokart race with David Harwin taking pole ahead of Larry Fraser and Kevin Tanaka. 4th went to the lone Junior TaG of Maxx Marian with the next nine karts being IAME TaG karts led by Ben Schreiner, points leader Don Rocci and Josh Buttafoco. In Heat #1, Larry Fraser got by Harwin early in the race and drove home for a slim win followed by Harwin, Tanaka, Marian, Schreiner, Rocci and Buttafoco. In Heat #2, Harwin took the lead out of turn one and drove to a 3 second win ahead of Fraser with the 3rd through 7th being the same as Heat #1. In the 15 lap Main, Harwin took the early lead and never looked back wtih Larry Fraser bringing it home in 2nd. Attrition took out the next two in the field with Marian pulling off on lap 11 and Tanaka pulling off on the 14 lap. Schreiner controlled the IAME TaG class and came home 3rd overall with a 5 second lead over his closest IAME competitor. The best battle of the race was for 2nd in the IAME class. Josh Buttafoco put lots of pressure on Rocci with Josh getting by near the end to take 4th overall and 2nd in IAME TaG.

Rotax Masters

With nine drivers, the Rotax Masters class continues to have solid numbers all season long. Cameron Evans took the pole ahead of his main rival Jerry Pretti with Scott Ripslinger 3rd. In the first heat race, the first four karts finished as they qualified: Evans, Pretti, Ripslinger and John Breidinger. Heat #2 was a repeat of Heat #1 with the finish order being the same. In the Main, Evans took the early lead and went on to a 5 second win. Pretti had to battle back as Ripslinger got by on the start. In the end Pretti took 2nd, Ripslinger 3rd and Stephen Gaudreau came up to take the 4th spot.

80 Masters

6 karts took the track with Steve Peterson taking the pole over defending champ Tom Nelson with Geoff Provo 3rd. In the first heat race, Peterson proved his pole was no fluke by leading the entire 8 lap race with Nelson close behind and Provo 3rd. In Heat #2, Provo had a good start and went to the lead with Peterson close behind. Nelson was just making a move to come to the front when he slowed and finished 5th. In the end it was Provo, Peterson and Roger Cornwall in the top three spots. For the Main, Peterson was on pole with Provo next to him. At the drop of the green, Peterson had a bad start and went to the rear of the pack quickly. Provo took the lead ahead of Nelson with Steve Cameron moving into third early on. Nelson eventually worked his way past Provo with Cameron making the pass on Provo shortly after and getting to within a second but ran time ran out. Nelson took the win, Cameron 2nd and Provo 3rd.

Rotax DD2 and DD2 Masters

With 4 karts, Pole went to Andre Eriksen (Masters), off his fourth place finish at the Rotax Nationals, followed by Tim Salveson in the lighter DD2 then Dave Moody and Bob Olson. In the first heat, Eriksen took the win followed by Salveson and Moody. In the second heat, Eriksen was again leading when he lost his brakes and had to pit handing the win to Salveson followed by Moody and Olson. In the Main, Eriksen took the early lead and just pulled away to a convincing win followed by Salveson, Moody and Olson.

Senior Rotax and Rotax Masters Light

These two 365 lb Rotax classes were combined for the day. The first four qualify times went to the Senior Rotax karts of Carlos Calderon, Tazio Ottis Sean McDonald and Matt Meach with the 5th best time going to the fastest Masters Light kart of Andrea Delfanti. In Heat #1, Calderon took the early lead followed by McDonald and Meach. By mid race, McDonald made the pass for the lead and held the front spot all the way to the checkered flag followed by Calderon, and Meach. The top Masters Light was Delfant in 5th with Mary Beth Wilson in 7th. In the second heat, Calderon took the early lead and proceeded to lengthen it out to take a 3 second win over McDonald with Meach 3rd. Delfanti worked his kart by Tazio Ottis to take 4th overall, first in the Masters Lights class with Stephen Gaudreau taking 2nd in the Masters Light and 7th overall. In the Main, Calderon again took the early lead but now he had his kart dialed in and he did not see a challenge for the lead for the whole 15 laps. McDonald had his hands full with pressure from Meach all race long with Meach taking over 2nd briefly but in the end Sean took the 2nd spot. In the Lights battle, Delfanti was leading Wilson with Gaudreau just behind. The best battle was between Tazio and Jarrett Lile, the two Senior drivers going side by side for several corners until they touched side by side and the two tangled with Tazio taking the worst of it with an injury to his leg that brought the second red flag of the day. Tazio was OK after a check over from the ambulance crew, but the race was called complete since 12 laps of the Main was in the books. The win went to Calderon, McDonald 2nd, Meach 3rd, Lile 4th with the first Masters Light of Delfanti in 5th, Gaudreau took 2nd in Lights and Wilson 3rd.

Junior Rotax and KPV2

6 drivers took the green, 4 Jr Rotax and 2 KPV2s. In Qualify, Will Preston took yet another pole this year followed by Zack Dante and Maxx Marian, all three in Jr Rotax karts. Jaden Conwright was 4th in his KPV2 followed by Olivia Cornali (Rotax) and Tommy McCarthey (KPV2). In the first heat, Zack took the lead into turn one and held it for the entire 8 laps to take a slim win over Preston followed by Marian, Conwright and McCarthey. The second heat was a repeat of the first with Dante taking a slim win over Preston followed by Marian, Conwright and Cornali with McCarthy retiring with terminal engine problems. In the Main, Dante lead the field through turn one with Preston right on his rear bumper. The two leaders raced within inches of each other until Preston make a pass attempt that spun both karts and by the time they both got going and up to speed, Marian had passed them both and had a few second lead. Dante tried to reel in Marian, but Maxx had too much of a lead and went on to a 5 second win, Dante second and Jaden Conwright 3rd overall and 1st in KPV2 with Conali 4th overall and 3rd in Jr Rotax in her first ever race.

After 5 races, the race results tightened up the class championships in most of the classes. The next race will be September 11 at the Jim Russell Karting Center and will run on the Reverse National configuration. For more information about the RLOKC series, go to www.redlineoilkarting.com .

6-27-11 Prokart Challenge North Prepares For Initial Visit to Monterey

Round four of Superkarts! USA regional program tackles Monterey Bay Karters home track

After a challenging round three over the Memorial Day weekend, the ProKart Challenge North program will return to action – looking for more favorable weather conditions but the same furious action on track. On July 1-2, the Superkarts! USA regional series will travel to the Marina Airport Kart Track, home of the Monterey Bay Karters. This will be a destination location for the entire family, including the Pacific Ocean and beach just minutes away, along with many famous and historical venues also nearby. The 1/2-mile course used by the club will be run in the reverse direction for the weekend.

“The Monterey Bay Karters are extremely happy to be welcoming SKUSA and the ProKart Challenge to our venue,” stated club president Alan Freese. “We have been at the Marina Airport location since 1997, hosting a number of large regional events over the years. The track is a technical layout, with a mixture of asphalt and concrete as the surface, giving that old school feel. Times for the S1 and S2 karts should be somewhere in the mid 34-second range. We hope everyone enjoys their time and the weather here, as we look to bring Monterey Bay Karters back on the map in karting.”

The circuit has provided the starting grounds for a number of Northern California karting stars over the past decade, and this weekend’s race will help shape the championship fights heading into the second half of the ProKart Challenge North schedule. The Peterson Wealth Management-sponsored TaG Senior championship chase now sees three drivers in the hunt. Thanks to his victory last month in Reno, Jess Peterson is now in the mix with Austin Elliott and TJ Fischer. Elliott leads Fischer by 79 points, with Peterson back 143 markers – but with three events still left, anything can happen. Jason Toft still holds the advantage over Brett Buckwalter in the Leading Edge Motorsports-sponsored S1 Pro Stock Moto class. His lead is just 25 points, with each holding a main event victory on the year.

The Sunshine Daydream Creations-sponsored S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto point standings are still led by two-time winner Jared Woolf. The young Daniel Langon sits second, coming off a victory in Reno and a podium performance at the latest PKC South event in San Diego. The two are separated by just 81 points – with the consistent Jamie Wilson hiding in the wake with finishes of third, fourth and third on the year. Despite scoring the main event win in Reno, Jim Kidd’s lead in the Fastech Racing-sponsored S4 Master Stock Moto standings was cut by 10 points, thanks to Nick Galante. Scoring the qualifying and feature fast lap bonus points, Galante was able to gain points on Kidd after a runner-up finish. The two will continue their battle along the coast in Monterey.

Ryan Rasberry scored an event sweep at Reno in the S3 Novice Stock Moto division to control the lead in the championship standings. Chris Yettito will look to regain some of the lost ground in the title chase in the final three events of the season. Also banking in at Reno with an event sweep is current Cambrian Go-Karts-sponsored TaG Master point leader Glenn McKinnon. Scoring win number two of the season in perfect fashion, McKinnon now leads defending SKUSA Pro Tour champion Ethan Wilson by 95 points, with Randy Froom lurking in third.

The fight in the Bordogna Racing Engines-sponsored TaG Junior championship will continue in Monterey between the same four drivers. Jack Freese escaped the Reno snow with the victory, gaining some valuable points on championship leader Austin Dement. Dement’s advantage over Blaine Rocha is now 63 markers, with Freese in third and Nick Sommers back in fourth. The Monterey event will be stop number two of the TaG Cadet Rok Cup International Final Shoot-out, with Hunter Corbitt out front in the four race mini-series over Davey Manthei Jr. and Hunter Kelly. Manthei is the current PKC championship leader with a 67-point advantage over Corbitt – with Kelly just 40 markers behind him in third.

The ProKart Challenge discounted price structure for an entry and race tires for $295 is available for racers who register online. Pre-registration pricing applies if completed before the midnight deadline on Wednesday, June 29 at www.skusastore.com. Signup at the track will be allowed, but will cost racers $85 more than the pre-race entry fee. Friday practice will be held from 9am to 5pm for just $60 (free to those new to Superkarts! USA and ProKart Challenge or one who has not competed with the organization in the last two years -- with a paid entry to race). More information regarding round four of ProKart Challenge North with the Monterey Bay Karters can be found at the following link (http://www.superkartsusa.com/regional/pkc-north/round-4-2011.html).

Following the Reno event, Superkarts! USA will travel to Grand Junction, Colorado for Rounds 3 and 4 of the 2011 SKUSA Pro Tour – The Mothers SummerNationals – to be held July 15-17. For more on anything related to the ProKart Challenge or Superkarts! USA, visit their website – www.superkartsusa.com – or call the SKUSA head office at 951-491-0808.

Another weekend of racing and another podium result for California's Austin Elliott as this time, he claimed the win in the NorCal Outlaw Series Final event in the Yamaha Senior category. Competing in his first ever Sr. Yamaha race, Elliott steadily improved throughout the day to take the main event victory and add another race win to his resume.

6-23-11 RLOKC Race Report: Round Three - Large fields - Kiel Spaulding takes GoPro feature race
Photos By RMG Race Media Group

Under Sonoma's sunny skies, Round Three of the Red Line Oil Karting Championship produced great racing. The popular and fast "Reverse National" track configuration attracted a strong turnout of drivers with over seventy racers that included a strong 125cc Stock Honda field, where twelve karts were entered.

Feature Race: Go Pro Senior Rotax

The Senior Rotax race was the featured event with nine drivers set to compete for the GoPro Hero HD mini-camera. In Qualifying, Kiel Spaulding took the pole convincingly ahead of former National Champion Wes Phillips, followed by Race Two winner Niki Luna and Race One winner Carlos Calderon. In the first heat, Spaulding pulled away to a seven second win with Phillips and Luna battling for the second spot. In the second heat, Phillips challenged for the lead early before Spaulding took control. Luna slipped by to take second place followed by Phillips and then Calderon. In the Main the battle was for second place as Spaulding again dominated the front of the field. The racing was very tough behind the leader with Phillips holding second and Luna falling back to ninth in the battle through the first two turns. Phillips was able to control the second position for the entire race with Sean McDonald holding down third. Calderon held third early on but fell back when his kart set up went away and had to settle for seventh in the end. A determined Luna battled through the field getting back to fourth with Jarrett Lile taking the fifth place position, Lile's best drive of the year.

Go-Pro Feature winner Kiel Spaulding dominated the main event

80 Masters

A strong field of nine karts took the green in the 80 Masters class. Reno's Mark Nason put his kart in the pole position followed by Race One winner Charles Hastings and Race Two winner Bob Lesnett. In the first heat, Nason and Hastings pulled away from rest of the pack to finish in first and second with Tom Nelson getting by Bob Lesnett to take third. Heat two saw a repeat of Heat one's results. A promised great Main race came to an abrupt end as the drivers raced into turn one at the start. Nason and Nelson managed to get through, but behind them carnage ensued, the result was a blocked track and several bent karts requiring a red flag. In the restart, only five karts took the green with two of these karts heading to the pits shortly after the restart. In the end, Nason came home the winner with Nelson second and another Reno driver, Darrel Dean third.

Rotax Masters Light

In the regional Masters Light class, Andrea Delfanti took the pole ahead of 2010 champ Mary Beth Wilson with Mert Solis third. In the first heat race, Wilson would not let Delfanti to get to far ahead and made a race of it. But in the end, Delfanti took the win, Wilson second with David Carlisle coming from fifth to third in the end. In the second heat, Delfanti pulled out the win with a bit more margin, Wilson second and Carlisle again moving through the field to take third. In the Main, Delfanti pulled away quickly at the drop of the green and was never challenged. The exciting racing was for second place as Wilson and Carlisle battled for position, by mid race Stephan Gaudreau joined in the battle. In the dash for the finish line, Carlisle took second with Gaudreau edging out Wilson with Mert Solis coming home in the fifth position.

Senior TaG, Junior TaG, TaG Masters and IAME TaG

With twelve karts, this was the best fields of the TaG race group since it was added to the RLOKC roster last year. The three Senior TaG karts were all fast and put on a great show all day long with each of the drivers winning one of the races. The IAME TaG class (Parilla engines only) had seven entries with a couple of new drivers that have helped step up the competition in this spec gear class. Larry Fraser took the pole ahead of Niki Luna with the TaG Masters of Jeff Deehan third, IAME TaG Don Rocci fourth and Jr TaG Austin Thomas fifth. In the heat one, Luna and Fraser battled for the lead with Luna coming out on top, fellow Sr TaG JP Cadoux coming home third from his twelfth place starting spot. Jeff Deehan came home fourth followed by Thomas in fifth and Rocci in sixth. In the second heat, it was Fraser getting the best of Luna for the win, Deehan third, Thomas fourth and John Waldrop taking fifth and the IAME class win. In the Main, Fraser and Luna started their fifteen lap battle with JP Cadoux coming from eighth to join them by the fifth lap. With Luna and Fraser concentrating so much on each other, Cadoux saw an opportunity to slip by and pulled away to take a two race win and first in Senior TaG, Fraser took second and Luna third. Jeff Deehan and Thomas had a great race with Deehan coming home fourth overall and taking the TaG Masters win with Thomas taking the Jr TaG class win and fifth overall. In the IAME race, three karts spun in turn one at the start with Rocci and Waldrop both involved, both recovered but were now far behind. Ben Schreimer took advantage and came home in sixth overall and first in the IAME class followed by Michael Torrano and Don Rocci for the second and third in class.

Junior Rotax and KPV2

Will Preston took his first ever pole in Junior Rotax followed by the Maxx Marian and Zack Dante with the KPV2 of Jaden Conwright in fourth. In the first race, Marian took the lead at the drop of the green and was near headed with Preston, Dante and Conwright following. In the second heat, the result was the same, but Preston put more pressure on Marian by coming home less than a second behind. In the Main, Marian took the lead at the green and came home with a six second win ahead of Preston with Dante third and Conwright fourth overall, first in KPV2.

125 Stock Moto - S2 and S4

Twelve 125cc shifters came to play, the largest turnout so far this year. Leading the pack were the four S2 karts with Brett Buckwalter taking pole ahead of Jason Toft, Ryan Rasberry and Sean McDonald. In S4, Jim Inglebright led the class ahead of Nick Galante and David Arnstein. In the first heat, Buckwalter took the lead at the green and led the entire distance followed closely by Toft with Sean McDonald getting by Rasberry for the third. Inglebright drove a strong race to come home first in S4 ahead of Jonathon Allen and Brad Shaffer. In the second heat, Toft took the lead through turn one with Buckwalter right on his heels the entire eight laps of the race. Buckwalter could never see the good opening to make the pass for the lead and settled for the runner up spot knowing he still had pole for the Main. Rasberry got ahead of McDonald to come home third in S2. In S4, Inglebright again drove a strong race but was hounded the whole way by Galante and Arnstein with just a half second separating the three drivers at the end of the race. In the Main, Toft again led the field through turn one with Buckwalter chasing, the two dueled the entire fifteen laps with never less than a kart length separating them. Toft held off the challenges of Buckwalter to take the win, his second of the year and consolidating his championship lead. The battle for third got really intense with about five laps remaining, McDonald and Rasberry exchanging positions and running side by side through several turns. It all came down to the last corner with Sean leading and Rasberry making a last minute pass, the two came together with Sean spinning off and Rasberry coming home in third. After review, Series Officials penalized Ryan for the contact and McDonald was award third in S2 and Rasberry fourth. In S4, Inglebright continued his command of the S4 field coming home first in S4 and third overall, he was followed closely by Galante, Shaffer and Arnstein.

Sanzaru Games Mini-Max

Eight drivers took the green and there were great battles throughout the field all day long. Taking pole position was Michael Michoff followed by Michael Avansino and Toni Breidinger. At the drop of the green in the first heat, Avansino took the lead but the two Michaels would trade the lead back and forth throughout the day. Scott Huffaker and Corrie Hiatt got by Toni at the start and the three ran in a tight pack all race long with Scott coming out on top in third place. Heat two again saw Avansino take the early lead but he and Michoff traded positions often, a great pass in the last turn on the white flag lap by Michoff brought the win his way. Again, Huffaker lead Hiatt, Toni and Annie Breidinger across the line to take third. In the Main, Avansino and Michoff battled the entire fifteen laps, something they have been doing all year. In the end it was Michoff leading the field across the line to take the hard fought win, just three tenths of a second ahead of Avansino. Huffaker and Hiatt again started out in third and fourth with Horatio Fitz-Simon taking the fifth position in the early laps. About mid race, Annie then Toni got by the determined Fitz-Simon and started their chase toward the front. Hiatt fell victim to the Breidinger twins as they continued to chase down Huffaker. Time ran out for the dynamic duo and Scott came home in third followed closely by Annie and Toni with Hiatt in sixth. With the deserving win, Michoff took home the $50 first place price, Avansino $30 and Huffaker $20, the awards presented by Sanzaru Games.

Rotax DD2 and DD2 Masters

In the fast two speed DD2 Rotax Masters class, Pole went to Michael Ostrowski ahead of Dave Moody and Bob Olson. The lone DD2 class kart of Bronson Eggert arrived to the track late and had to start fourth since he missed Qualifying. In the first heat, Ostrowski took the lead through turn one followed by Moody and Eggert. Bronson then got by Moody and then challenged Ostrowski for the lead. Eggert made the pass on Ostrowski late in the race to take the win. The second heat was a repeat of the first heat with a charging Eggert making a late pass to take the win ahead of Ostrowski with Moody in third. In the Main, Eggert started on pole and took the lead early on. Ostrowski stayed close the entire way keeping up the pressure and waiting for an opportunity to make a pass. A flawless drive by Eggert didn't allow any opening and Eggert came home first in the race overall and first in DD2. Ostrowski came home one second behind for the overall and the win in DD2 Masters with Moody and Olson finishing in second and third in class.

Rotax Masters

The largest single class of the day was the Rotax Masters with eleven drivers. Jerry Pretti fresh off his win last month took the pole ahead of Cameron Evans and Bob Hurst. In the first heat, Pretti and Evans pulled away from the rest of the field and battled the entire race with Pretti coming home just in front of Evans. The battle for third had Scott Ripslinger holding down the position most of the race until a fast Donald Durbin came from his last starting position to take third away from Scott. In the second heat, Evans took the lead and opened up a gap on Pretti. The racing was fast and furious for the next six positions with Pretti holding down second until near the end when Durbin again came all the way from last to take second place, Pretti third followed by Ripslinger and Ken Santos. In the Main, Evans led the field through turn one with Durbin now in a position to challenge. It did not take long for Durbin to take the lead and control the race with Evans holding second but being pursued relentlessly by a determined Jerry Pretti. The best battle on the track was for fourth through sixth between Ripslinger, Santos and Hurst with the veteran Hurst coming out on top. At the checker flag, Durbin came home the winner, Evans holding on to second, Pretti third followed by Hurst, Santos and Ripslinger.

The Red Line Oil Karting Championship would like to thank all the sponsors that helped make it happen. Photos by RMG Race Media Group

Cambrian Go Karts has had excellent results thus far in the month of june, and wanted to share some of the highlights with you all. First off was the Rotax race located at Infineon Race way on the 11th and the team was working hard and gathering momentum for the up coming Rotax Grand Finals in Utah next month so this race was a good test bed for the drivers and mechanics to explore a little bit more. It proved to be a success, the team entered and Won 5 classes.

Mini Max was the most exciting to watch as Michael Michoff, Michael Avansino, Scott Huffaker as well as Corey Hiatt all on birel C28s pushed their karts to the max and helped motivate each other to drive that much harder. In the main event Michoff and Avansino has a nail biting battle that involved zero contact and showed Michoff’s race craft would prevail as he completed a last lap pass for the second rotax race in a row to take the victory. “ It was a very exciting race to watch “ said Donald Durbin Jr. “ I could see Michael M. thinking out there and I was proud to see his patience rather than haste pass attempts, he has really come into his own this year and I cant wait to take him to Utah.

Also Bringing home victory’s for the Cambrian Banner that weekend were, Ben Schriener, Jaden Conwright, Bronson Eggert and Donald Durbin Jr.

Wins are important but not everything, I would like to say congratulations to the rest of the team that came out the race and did very well. Scott Huffaker did a extremely good job of racing his way through the field after finding a broken ground wire in the heat race. Corey Hiatt Raced his heart out at a new track and did awesome, John Waldrop won the heat race in the tag class and Didn’t get to finish the main ( contact on the start ) Chris Rossi was up to Third when he decided that something looked more interesting on the side of the track rather than on it, and Bob Hurst drove up to fourth and gathered more points for his championship run. Dave Moody and Bob Olson raced their DD2’s as hard as they could and represented the team very well with top finishes gathering more data for the trip to the Nationals.

Next the Team Traveled to Atwater Ca, for the final of the Outlaw series, the group that made the trek was Michael Michoff, Alec Hudson, Justin Yanez, Grayson Browne, Bronson Eggert, ALi Manning and Josh Veloz.

In HPV 1 we saw an excellent qualifying effort from Hudson as he put his birel c28 on the front row of a tough class with Michoff right behind him. Michoff quietly ran down the leader Davey Manthei and enjoyed applying pressure without attacking in the heat race. The Main event came and Michoff turned up the volume. Securing second place off the start he let the laps wind down and on the last lap of the race he out broke Manthei and stole the show! Never challenged again he ran through the last 3 corners and scored a big win for the Cambrian Go Karts Team and gave his Father Mike Michoff and great fathers day gift.

Hpv 2 was also a great show for the team, Justin Yanez and Grayson Browne, couldn’t catch a break in the opening laps of the race but both fought hard and moved through the field of talented drivers to finish 3rd and fourth, Grayson was as far back as 9th with three laps to go but put the pedal down on the long Atwater straight-away and moved up to a great 4th place finish.

The Yamaha class is always fun to watch and race in and Cambrian’s Bronson Eggert had high school graduation on Saturday so he showed up Sunday morning with no practice and took the heat race victory away from David Vasquez and CJ Mooneyham as well as the rest of the field. The main event came and saw CJ take the lead of the start but Bronson wasn’t having any of it as he out broke Mooneyham in text book form to take the lead. Bronson’s Bridgestone's were just about to get ready to put distance between him and the field as contact from behind helped him watch the rest of the race rather than participate in it. Bronson, CJ and David all came to a stop allowing the fourth place driver to inherit the win. Great job.

Next Stop for the team is the Davis X over where the teams new parts/support trailer will be in its familiar spot ready to support the racer.

6-14-11 IKF R11 Elite Championship Series Change of Date for the July 15-17 Reno Race

It has been an awful start of the year for the Northern Nevada Kart Club in terms of weather, and unfortunately we must bring the regional racers a bit of more bad news.  We have been trying to crack seal and seal coat our entire race track this spring but the weather has not cooperated with us.  We've had to postpone this work up until now, when our contractors are now available and able to perform the tasks.  Desert Park Raceway will be under construction the first and second week of July with these improvements.  Because of this, we sadly regret the need to inform all racers that the Reno IKF July 15-17 race will be moved to July 29-31.

The track will have the new speed grip compound which is what was laid down at the Stockton Motorsports Complex.  The days of a "low grip" Desert Park Raceway are about to be a thing of the past.  Old set ups will most likely not work with this drastic change of grip.  All competitors will for a short time, be on a level playing field.  We hope all Karters can understand the need for this improvement.  We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused many of you who have booked your rooms and made vacation plans at work and with the kids to attend this event.  The hotels will work with you as far as changing dates.  The Reno IKF hotel room block is pending at this time as Bev Ban is working feverishly to get this done for us.  More information will follow soon.  We tried unsuccessfully to avoid this situation, but at this time we're just unable to do that.  If anything can be done by the NNKC to better help you through this, do not hesitate to email/call Jess Peterson or Brian Rivera.  Again, we are sorry for this change of date.

Sincerely,
Northern Nevada Kart Club

6-14-11 Stockton Kart Club Rain Date is June 25th

6-10-11 Mothers Signs as Skusa Summer Nationals Title Sponsor

Car care company continues strong ties with Superkarts! USA organization and karting community

Superkarts! USA is pleased to announce that they will partner with Mothers® Polishes-Waxes-Cleaners for the upcoming stop on the national karting schedule. Mothers® has signed on to become the title sponsor of the second event of the 2011 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour – now labeled as the Mothers® SummerNationals. The event will be held at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway in Grand Junction, Colorado on the July 15-17 weekend, with an expected 200 drivers competing in the shifterkart and TaG divisions. Mothers® will be out in force, supporting the racers with prize packages for each and every podium finisher.

“Mothers has been a valued supporter of SKUSA ever since I’ve been at the helm, and we couldn’t be happier to continue this strong relationship,” stated Tom Kutscher, Superkarts! USA president. “Their products are superior and the relationship they have with motorsports, especially the grassroots level, is phenomenal. We are extremely pleased to have a company like Mothers as part of the SummerNationals this year. There is no doubt this event will be one step above what we did in Tucson for the SpringNationals, and that’s saying something. I can’t wait.”

Formed in the early 1970’s, Mothers® Polishes-Waxes-Cleaners began its life with just one product – a little tin of Mag & Aluminum Polish for cars. From there, word of the quality wheel polish with the unusual name spread quickly, and the company developed a loyal following of car enthusiasts who wanted to keep that ‘like-new’ shine on their mag wheels and aluminum parts. After years of growth and development, the Mothers® line has grown to more than 40 different car care products.

“The whole family here at Mothers® is very honored to be the title sponsor for the upcoming SKUSA SummerNationals,” commented Mothers® executive Jim Holloway. “The many racers who have used our products and are loyal to our brand understand our love of motorsports. We’ve been a supporter of Superkarts! USA for a number of years now, and we’re happy to take that to the next level. Mothers® will be on hand to provide product prizes to all of the winners over the weekend. It should be an exciting event for sure.”

The Mothers® SummerNationals is expected to be one of the largest events of the summer karting season, with an estimated 200 drivers expected to compete in Grand Junction. The fields in the eight categories are set to have stacked driver rosters, with racers from all over the country and North America traveling to the Rocky Mountain state. Information regarding the Mothers® SummerNationals can be found at the following link (http://www.superkartsusa.com/national/skusa-pro-tour/summer-nationals.html). 6-2-11 Austin Elliott Moves to Senior Ranks in The California Karting Scene

"Leading SKUSA PKC point standings in TAG Sr. after three rounds"

Austin Elliott leads the SKUSA PKC point standings in TaG Senior
(Photo: Race Media Group)

Having just completed his final junior competition in the karting ranks, Californian Austin Elliott would move up to the ultra competitive senior categories and look to continue his string of recent success. Competing aboard a P1 Engines powered, Wesley Boswell tuned Top Kart, Elliott is turning heads in the western half of the United States as he continues to out run national level front-runners in regional competition.

With his final junior event taking place in Stockton, California at the NorCal Outlaw Series, Elliott garnered a strong third place result after qualifying on the front row. Excited to move up in classes, Elliott would be back on track the following weekend at the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) ProKart Challenge North event in Reno, Nevada for round three of the program in the TaG Senior division.

This wouldn't be Elliott's first attack on the senior field but the front running Californian was able to compete in select events earlier in the 2011 season that would not jeopardize his status as a junior. Now, with a full-fledged commitment to the senior ranks, Elliott would join seventeen other hungry competitors in the hunt for the race win.

Looking to get up to speed during Friday's test sessions, Elliott would struggle slightly with the ever-changing track conditions and sorted TAG engine packages competitors were allowed to run, finishing the day nearly .700 from the quickest competitor. With wholesale changes Friday evening, Elliott was back on pace on Saturday morning claiming the fifth quickest time in his qualifying run as the top five drivers were separated by a scant tenth of a second.

Starting the first of two heat races from inside the third row, disaster would strike on the opening lap as Elliott would be involved in a first corner incident that relegated him to the tail of the field. Never giving up, Elliott would drive forward again only to be caught up in an unavoidable incident on lap six before claiming the tenth position.

Looking for redemption in heat two, Elliott would be forced to start in his first heat finishing position on the difficult outside fifth row. Looking to survive the first lap against the other aggressive senior drivers, Elliott quickly moved through the field crossing the stripe in the sixth position.

Even though it is May, racing in California can be affected by weather and the main events were shortened to fifteen laps from the scheduled twenty due to the snow that was on its way in the mountainous region. Anxious to get to the front, Elliott quickly charged forward through the field putting on a passing clinic as he continually out broke and drafted past his competition. Running the second fastest lap time of the race, the Top Kart driver moved into the second position and chased down the leader toward the win but ran out of laps when the checkered flag was flown. Finishing in the second position, Elliott will retain his overall points lead heading into the remaining three events in the Pro Kart Challenge North program.

"I had a lot of fun competing in this Pro Kart Challenge event even though the weather wasn't what we had expected. I also gained a lot of knowledge that I'll be taking to my next race," explained Austin Elliott. "I really enjoy running the Reno track because it is fun but challenging. I was happy to be able to compete against some top drivers and come out close to the front."

Austin would like to thank the people who are making it possible for him to compete in this race series including his Mom for her support and dedication to helping him climb the motorsports ladder, his tuner Wesley Boswell for his chassis set up, and driver coaching, Mike Tetreault from Grand Products, Jesus @ P1 Engines, The Door & Window Stop, Fresno Tap Recycling, SNAP Fitness of Shingle Springs, Sons of Stafford Plumbing, STAT Medical, RDS Race Cars & Chassis, Lisa @ Race Karts! Inc., Kartel Motorsports and RMG. Special thanks to Ron from Avery Dennison and Kwasi at Custom Vehicle Wraps for the awesome new vinyl wrap graphics on the trailer. Also, a big thanks to Tom & Patti Kutscher of the Superkarts! USA program for putting on the NorCal Race Series.

6-2-11 Peterson Ices Field For Prokart Challenge North Victory in Reno
Photos by RMG Race Media Group

Nevada driver defends home turf while Langon scores first ever S2 feature win

After two months away from the track, the competitors of the Superkarts! USA ProKart Challenge North program returned to continue their chase for series championships, with the third round taking place at the Desert Park Raceway in Reno, Nevada. Scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, snow was not thought of when mapping out the six-round calendar. Keeping the SKUSA staff and competitors on its toes, the weather was unique – with strong winds and low temperatures, eventually bringing in snow showers for the final three main events – thus giving TaG Junior, TaG Cadet and TaG Senior drivers an extra 100 points toward the championship. Despite the battle with the weather, the Northern Nevada Kart Club provided great support to SKUSA and the competitors, including 10 new series competitors, with four of them making their way to the podium. Leading the way for the local talent was TaG Senior pilot Jess Peterson, as the long-time SKUSA competitor earned his first victory of the year at his home track.

Opening up the event with a second-consecutive pole award was Bronson Eggert, as he posted a 48.429-lap in the Peterson Wealth Management-sponsored TaG Senior class to edge out Peterson by 31-thousandths. Nevada residents David Harwin and Kevin Tanaka – along with point leader Austin Elliott – rounded out the fast-five in the 17-kart field, with the top five within 0.13-seconds of Eggert. After the first 10-lap heat race, Eggert and Peterson remained the top two, with Tanaka advancing past Harwin for third and Elliott falling to the tail of the field early to finish 10th. In heat two, Peterson went wire-to-wire, driving to a two-second victory as Harwin managed to push up to second, moving Eggert back to third ahead of Tanaka. Once the green flag waved for the shortened 15-lap feature race, Peterson never looked back as he drove to a commanding 2.762-second victory under changing weather conditions for his first series win of the season. Elliott fought back and knifed his way forward in the final six laps. Sitting fifth, Elliott advanced to second by the checkered flag, edging out Tanaka for the position. Harwin finished fourth, with Eggert placing fifth.

Leading Edge Motorsports-sponsored S1 Pro Stock Moto saw its second winner of the season as Jason Toft drove to victory in the main event. Previous race winner Brett Buckwalter posted the quick lap in the qualifying session (47.118). Then he and Toft split the heat wins. Buckwalter seized the holeshot as the lights went out to begin the 20-lap feature race. Toft waited to make his move in the second half of the race as they completed lap 12. Toft would then drive away to score an eight-second victory over Buckwalter.

Daniel Langon finally found his way to the top of the podium in the Sunshine Daydream-sponsored S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto category. The 2010 S5 Junior Stock Moto Pro Tour champion began the Reno event topping the charts in qualifying, posting a 47.564-lap, more than one-tenth quicker than point leader Jared Woolf. After taking the green to start heat one, Langon was a bit slow off the line and as they shuffled into the opening corner, contact was made. The result put Langon on the sideline, and this gave Woolf a clear run at the race win over Chris Ouimet and Jamie Wilson. Starting sixth, Langon fought his way back toward the front in heat two – until lap six when his driver fairing broke loose and impeded his view, forcing him to pull off. Woolf would go on to win the race with Jimmy Casey up to second over Wilson. Casey grabbed the holeshot to begin the 20-lap main event, with Woolf slotted back to second and Langon moving up to third quickly. Langon worked by Woolf for second on lap five and then stole the lead from Casey the following circuit. From there, Langon drove on to a six-second victory over Casey. Woolf ran third until lap 14, when a mechanical issue struck the point leader and put him out of the race. That moved Wilson onto the podium for the second time on the season.

Glenn McKinnon established himself as the championship leader, sweeping the action in the Cambrian Go-Karts-sponsored TaG Master division. The Round 1 winner opened up the day with a 49.246-lap in qualifying to edge out then-point leader and reigning Pro Tour champion Ethan Wilson by just 85-thousandths. McKinnon drove to a three-second victory in heat one, but Wilson closed up the gap the second time out, trailing by just three-tenths at the checkered flag of heat two. After the green flag waved to begin the 20-lap feature, McKinnon and Wilson began what was thought to be a full race duel – until Wilson spun during the opening lap and would retire with a mechanical issue. With Wilson on the sidelines, McKinnon powered on to take his second victory of the season by nearly two-seconds, with Randy Froom placing runner-up for his second podium finish of the season. Local driver Steve Ryckebosch placed third for his first SKUSA ProKart Challenge event.

The top three in the championship chase led the way in qualifying for the Bordogna Racing-sponsored TaG Junior category. Austin Dement posted a 49.105-lap to easily score the pole position, with Blaine Rocha in second and point leader Nick Sommers in third – until he was removed from the results for not utilizing the correct PKC marked MG Tires. Dement took the lead after the green flag waved to begin heat one, going on to lead all 10 laps for the win – while Rocha slipped to the tail of the field, eventually finishing seventh. JR Raczko finished second, with Sommers recovering up to third. For heat two, Dement would run into trouble on the opening lap with his airbox falling off, forcing him to pull off the track. This gave Sommers the lead – and he would go on to the win ahead of Raczko and Rocha, now back up into third. The TaG Junior feature was one of the three to encounter the wet conditions, and Sommers was the first victim in the class. He spun around on his own in the first lap and unable to return to the track, he watched from the sidelines for the entire race. After a wild first lap, Dement was up to the lead and held it until Jack Freese joined him up front. On lap 12, Freese made his move for the lead. From there, Freese mastered the final few laps to score the victory by just under two-second over Dement to put himself in the championship chase. Raczko finished third, completing his best performance of the season and his first podium thus far.

The Cambrian Go-Karts-sponsored TaG Cadet class began their four-race Rok Cup International Final Shoot-out – with the driver scoring the most points earning an invitation to compete in the October 16 event in Italy. Hunter Kelly grabbed the first 10 points, posting the fast lap of the qualifying session with a 54.088-lap. Championship leader Davey Manthei Jr. was second quick, 36-thousandths back, with Garrett Dixon only 54-thousandths off Kelly’s time. Kelly led the first two laps of the opening heat race before Manthei claimed the position and the race win. Manthei led the early goings of heat two before Hunter Corbitt worked by for the lead and eventually the win, with Kelly also passing through for second in the final lap. The trio continued their battle in the 10-lap feature with Kelly leading the way early. Corbitt took his turn at the point on lap three until Manthei returned to the front on lap seven. On the final lap, Corbitt struck back and worked by Manthei for the lead – driving on to his first victory of the season. Manthei settled for second with Kelly a close third.

Jim Kidd earned his second feature win of the season in the Fastech Racing-sponsored S4 Master Stock Moto division, but not without a fight. Nick Galante was the driver to beat through much of the day after topping the charts in qualifying with a 48.735-lap. Kidd was second, with round one winner Casey Scherer third, all within a tenth of each other. Galante would score the win in both heat races and grabbed the holeshot to begin the 20-lap feature. On lap two, Kidd and Todd Thompson worked by for position ahead of Galante, who appeared to be off-pace from the previous sessions. In the end, Kidd took the victory with Galante placing second and Thompson third. David Arnstein retired after lap one, and Scherer was involved in a wreck in the first start attempt that put him on his head, thankfully able to walk away. Ryan Raspberry earned his second victory of the season in the S3 Novice Stock Moto category, sweeping the day’s action to position himself as the championship leader. Chris Yettito kept Raspberry honest throughout the day, but was unable to match the pace. John Morgan made his first PKC North start to complete the podium.

Due to the weather situation in Reno, the awards presentations were postponed until the next event for the SKUSA ProKart Challenge North program in Monterey, California on July 1-2 for the fourth round of the championship. That weekend will be the final SKUSA race prior to the second event of the 2011 Pro Tour – the SKUSA SummerNationals – to be held July 15-17 at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway in Colorado. The SKUSA crew will be back trackside next for round five of the ProKart Challenge South program on June 17-18 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA, running in conjunction with the San Diego Karting Association.

6-2-11 Red Line Oil Series Round #3 Kicks Off Summer

Summer is approaching quickly and the weather forecast for next weekend's race is looking great! Round #3 of the Red Line Oil Karting Championship opens the summer months on the very popular Reverse National configuration of the Infineon Raceway's International Karting Center. Later this month Infineon Raceway will host the Nascar Sprint Cup Save Mart 350 but for now it's all about the karters. Come on out June 11-12th and enjoy great weather and even better racing!

Saturday will be an open practice day from 10:30 to 5:30 with registration and pre-tech available on Saturday. We will have a slow session from 10-10:30 for engine break in or new drivers if anyone needs it. The Sunday race program will begin at 8:20 with one round of practice sessions, followed by qualifying, two 8 lap Pre-Finals and 15 lap Mains starting at 2:40. Admission for spectators is $10, $5 for kids 8 and under. Race Entry is $100, transponder rental $10 and Saturday Practice is $50. For more information on the Red Line Oil Karting Championship go to www.redlineoilkarting.com  or contact race director Ric Shaw at racedirector-ric@hotmail.com

Each race the series chooses one class to be the Go-Pro featured main event. The winner of this race receives a Go-Pro HD Hero mini camera. The Go-Pro featured class this race will be the ever competitive Senior Rotax class. Round #2 winner, Niki Luna, has his mind set on making it two wins in a row. It might not be that easy as Round #1 winner Carlos Calderon will be back in the field after a one race hiatus with some plans of his own. As always the Senior Rotax division has many drivers that could win on any given Sunday. Last years championship runner up, Raymund Bustamante Jr, is ready to bust out with his first win of the season. The return of TJ Fisher will be happening as well. TJ had that great run at the Gatorz COTA round #5 at Infineon in February when he took the impressive victory in the rain. Sean McDonald is now concentrating solely on the Senior Rotax class and has high hopes of returning to his top form. Fast improving Andrew Colombini and Jarret Lile will also try to keep moving up the leader board and try to put their karts in a position to log their first win at Infineon. The Senior Rotax race will, as always, have one heck of a battle brewing with the winner taking home a GoPro Hero HD mini-camera.

After only two races, the Sanzaru Games Mini-Max championship is shaping up to be the battle between 2010 champ Michael Avansino and Round #2 winner Michael Michoff. Add in the return of Scott Huffaker and the improving sister duo of Annie and Toni Breidinger this race will probably come down to the wire yet again. The Mini-Max race will again feature tough competition and of course the $50/$30/$20 cash prize money for the top three in the main.

Rotax Masters now has three drivers battling for top honors at this point in the season. After a convincing win last month from Jerry Pretti, he joins Cameron Evans and an improving Scott Ripslinger as the top drivers in this highly competitive class. Veteran Bob Hurst is quickly getting up to speed with his Rotax power plant so look to see Bob challenging for the top honors very soon. Series newcomer Ken Santos continues to get his grove back after taking several years off of kart racing and should be a contender to look out for. There has also been a rumor out there that highly decorated Masters driver Rob Soares will make an appearance. Rob likes the reverse layout and should be right there to challenge for the win as well.

The 80 Masters field is getting interesting with 2010 champ Tom Nelson getting some real competition from several drivers. Bob Lesnutt returned to winning form in Race #2 and Greg Richter rebounded from a rough Race #1 to take a second place last month and put his stamp on being a championship contender. Don't count out Roger Cornwall when it comes to contending for the championship either.

The IAME TaG class has pulled in good entry numbers so far this year with Don Rocci taking the first two races. But look for the pressure on Don to come from Bryce Guzman after his 3 year lay off from racing. With Bryce's strong 2nd place finish in Race #2, he is close to being in top form again and ready to contend.

As always the Reverse National layout should bring out several Stock Moto shifters to this event as usual. New to the Red Line Oil Karting Series this year is the addition of the SKUSA spec classes S2, S4, TAG senior, TAG junior and TAG masters. All classes run the SKUSA MG white compound. We should see good battles in S2 and S4 just like the last two races. The TAG classes have not gotten much play so far this year but the series will continue to support them knowing that there are a ton of Tag karts out there that need a good place to race. Infineon Raceway provides some of the best racing any where in the USA and we are finally starting to see some of the larger fields of old.

With only two more Norcal Rotax races before the Rotax Nationals in July, expect to see lots of Rotax drivers working hard to get into top race shape as they prepare for the first western US location of the Rotax Nationals in a few years. If you haven't had the chance to try the Red LIne OIl karting series yet, come on out and see what you've been missing!

6-2-11 Kartel Reno Race Report
Photos By RMG Race Media Group

The Kartel Group was at it once again this past weekend, this time in beautiful Reno Nevada for Round 3 of SKUSA Pro Kart North. Friday Practice was good for the team and each driver was Near the top in each of their categories.

Kartel had a lone solider, Corey Mitchel, in the TAG Masters category. Having never been to the Reno facility, Corey used every session to its fullest. Getting more and more comfortable to the challenging track each session, Corey used his Masterful experience in the class to race smart and stay out of trouble. Lessons learned in Reno, Mitchell is preparing for the Monterrey Round in a few weeks.

Davey Manthei Jr made the trip down from Washington to join teammate Jack Von Quillich in the TAG Cadet category. Manthei posted fast times all practice and into the racing action proving once again his Wild Kart/Magnum will be at the front. Jack raced a smart race, working on passing every session out, Jack left the Race with some valuable championship points. Manthei left Reno vice-champion, maintain his Championship lead.

TAG Jr. was a wild one for sure. Blaine Rocha and Taylor Jacobs were the two Kartel drivers in this Category. Qualifying off pole, Rocha stayed up front throughout the heats and had a solid starting position heading into the final. As the class sat on the grid for the final, a snow storm blew in. The SKUSA Staff declared it a rain race, with the option of going to the Bridgestone Rain tire if competitors wished. Rocha opted for the rain compound and Taylor went the dry route. The choice proved right for Taylor as he set fast lap in the final.

Austin Elliott moved up from the Jr categories and has never looked back. He came to Pro Kart with determination and a properly prepared kart and it showed from the moment he unloaded his kart from the trailer. Austin overcame misshapes and bad luck, from his 9th starting position he drove through the field, with the laps running out Austin crossed the finish line in second place. A great drive and a nice lead in his championship fight.

Next up for the Kartel Group is the All Star Karting Club Race at Prairie City.

6-1-11 Superkarts USA Opens Registration June 1 For Supernationals XV

Class line-up announced for November 16-20 outside Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino

If you visit the Superkarts! USA website today, you will see there are only 169 days left until the organization’s marquee event – the SKUSA SuperNationals. Oh yes, it’s coming – and it’s going to be big. Last year’s event reached historic measures, with 500 competitors traveling in from all across North America and around the world. The race will return to the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on November 16-20, and this year’s competition will be the landmark 15th edition of the great event. To help start the race to SuperNationals glory, the organization is happy to open up their online registration on June 1.

With all of the categories on the line-up utilizing a cap on the number of entries to participate, SKUSA is anticipating that they will see many of the classes fill up quickly, as they have for the past few seasons. The online registration for the SKUSA SuperNationals XV will go live at www.skusastore.com at midnight on Tuesday, May 31. Drivers wishing to be certain that they will be included in the event are encouraged to enter as soon as possible. The weekend schedule has its limits, and only a couple of classes will be extended past the 40-driver mark.

“It’s hard to believe that the 15th edition of the SuperNats is just around the corner,” stated Superkarts! USA President Tom Kutscher. “I can remember racing in the early years of the event, and now having promoted the last five editions, it’s amazing when you realize where it is today. I can’t thank our dedicated staff enough for all of their hard work over the years – and the support of those who come every year to participate, making the event what it is. We have a lot of things in the works to help celebrate this 15th year. Put that together with what we expect to be another stacked driver roster enjoying the atmosphere of Las Vegas, and this year’s event will be like no other.”

A total of 11 classes – the same from the 2010 edition – will once again battle on the temporary circuit overlooking the Las Vegas Strip. The line-up will feature the best shifterkart and TaG drivers from the United States and around the world. In order to fit all the categories into the daily schedule, all classes will have a maximum entry that once hit, will begin the waiting list process. Last year, TaG Senior, S2, S4, TaG Master, TaG Junior, and TaG Cadet all reached numbers over 40 – and SKUSA is expecting the same for 2011. The following is the list of classes to be offered for this year’s SKUSA SuperNationals:

S1 – Pro Stock Moto
S2 – Semi-Pro Stock Moto
S4 – Master Stock Moto – 30 years of age or older
S5 – Junior Stock Moto
G1 – ICC or Built Moto – 30 years of age or older
KZ2 – (per CIK rules)
KF2 – (per CIK rules)
TaG Senior – Approved SKUSA TaG Engines
TaG Master – Approved SKUSA TaG Engines
TaG Junior – Parilla Leopard
TaG Cadet – MiniRok

With this year’s edition marking the 15th running of the SKUSA SuperNationals, the organization is working to make the five days in November another historic event. The daily timetable will again see SKUSA’s innovative split schedule, which features five classes run in the morning and six in the afternoon. This style of program offers teams and drivers more time to enjoy the event, including spending more time to enjoy the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas.

Online race registration will open at midnight (Pacific Time) on Tuesday, May 31, as well as the special room code SRSNA11 for the Rio, which will again offer up an incredible room rate for the duration of the event. The online hotel booking link will be posted by midnight, May 31 as well, at http://www.superkartsusa.com/national/skusa-supernationals.html

Any shops, teams or companies that wish to be part of the race through class, associate or award sponsorships should contact Tom Kutscher directly at 951-491-0808. Ongoing information for all of SKUSA’s race events can be found at www.superkartsusa.com
