2008 Sprint Supplemental Rules

Notification

Rules and information posted to the IKF-Region 11 website, Norcalkarters.com shall be considered Adequate and Official Notice to racers participating at NCTA Regional events.

1) General Rules

A)  2008 I.K.F. Rules and Regulations as published, plus the NCTA (Nor-Cal)                     Supplements Rules.  In the event of a conflict these NCTA (Nor-Cal)     Supplemental Rules will control.

B)  The current year I.K.F. Rule Book is a tech item; you must be able to show your copy when requested by an IKF or NCTA Official.  (106.3)

            C)  All shifter drivers must have a current I.K.F/ Shifter license. (255)

D)  All IAME Cup and IKF TaG drivers must have appropriate license. (TAG, Shifter, or Road Race)

E)  Three (3) karts make a class.  If less than 3 karts enter a class, they may be allowed to race, however, points will not count towards year end awards.  Drivers will receive an I.K.F. Punch.

F)  “X” drivers should not participate in Nor-Cal Regional Events. (104.10) A driver should complete a minimum of 3 races at a club level before participating in a Nor-Cal regional event including Kid Kart drivers.

G) The blue flag is a removal flag.  (210.8.3.1) the driver will be scored to the point they are shown the blue flag.

H) No specific motor break sessions will be conducted at IKF Nor-Cal Regional events.

I) All events are 2-day events unless otherwise noted.  No practice Monday thru Thursday at host track the week before a Nor-Cal event.  Violators will be disqualified from event.  Friday practice is optional for the hosting club.  Please check the Nor-Cal website, Norcalkarters.com for those tracks holding Friday practice. 

J) If a start is waved off, or the Starter calls for a restart - All corners will display a waving yellow flag.

2)      Tires:

A)    Durometer test may be done as part of tech at Nor-Cal events.

B)     YJL classes:

i)                    Formula 80 Limited (LTD) and formula 80 LTD Masters will run Bridgestone YJL compound tires.

ii)                   Minimum durometer reading of 52 as karts exit track.  Tires can be tested at any time during the race event. 

NO Tire conditioners of any kind may be used.  Tires may not appear wet at anytime, Tires are subject to testing for Hydrocarbons, and Volatile Organic Compounds at any time.  The exterior tire, interior air sample and interior tire surface are all subject to testing at the request of the Tech Director.

C)    YHC Classes:

i)                    Bridgestone YHC compound tires to be used for all other classes:

ii)                   Minimum durometer reading of 45 as karts exit track.

NO Tire conditioners of any kind may be used.  Tires may not appear wet at anytime, Tires are subject to testing for Hydrocarbons, and Volatile Organic Compounds at any time.  The exterior tire, interior air sample and interior tire surface are all subject to testing at the request of the Tech Director.

D)    NCTA Tech Director may recommend to the NCTA Race Director that an adjustment in the minimum durometer requirements may be necessary due to track conditions. This adjustment must be made prior to qualifying.  Adjusted minimum value is valid for the day only.     

E)     Rain Tires

i)                    In the event of rain, and the race director declares a Rain Day, the driver may choose to run either the spec tire for their class or any Bridgestone rain tires. (200.2.2)

3)      Front Brakes:

A)    Front-Wheel brakes are not allowed in any IFK Region 11 Class being offered in 2008.

4)      Air boxes/Mufflers:

A)    Per IKF Rule Book. (603.1.4)

5)      Number Panels:

A)    Per IKF Rule Book (115.2 and 206.1)

i)                    Only listed experts may use gold (yellow) number panels with black numbers. (115.2 and 206.1.3)

ii)                   All first year “rookie” drivers must display a day-glow orange number panel on rear of kart for their entire first racing season.  White number panels with black number at the other 3 locations.

iii)                 All other drivers shall use 4 white panels with black numbers. (206.1.1)

iv)                 All number panels must be properly mounted per IKF rulebook. (206.1.3)

6)      Mandatory Decals, Appearance:

A)    It essential, as our sport continues to grow, that every effort is made to present the highest possible appearance standard possible.  To this end, certain minimum requirements shall be imposed on all competitors.  All Region 11 events will demand at a minimum, clean and professional driver and team standard.  Gross Violations of these minimums may result in revocation of entry or team.

i)                    Driver:  All members competing in Region 11 events shall maintain a clean, neat appearance.  Driver wear shall be clean for each event.  Official IKF patches shall be displayed on the upper half of the front of their driving suits at all events.  Series sponsor patches shall be displayed as directed.

ii)                   Kart:  IKF decals shall be displayed prominently on the drivers fairing.   Series or class sponsor decals shall be displayed as directed.  All other appearance elements of the racing vehicle should reflect the highest possible standards and shall not be less than clean.

iii)                 Crew:  All crew persons shall maintain a high standard of appearance at all events.  During the “Official” event days, teams are encouraged to wear team uniforms and maintain them in the most professional manner possible.

7)      Driver Safety Equipment:

A)    All items per IKF Rules.

8)      Qualifying, One Heat, and Main:

A)    Format will be 2 qualifying laps, Pre-Final and Final.  (see: Spec Fuel Sticker #13 below)

i)                    Heat laps to be determined by the tracks.  Minimum 10 lap pre-final, and 15 lap main, (exception, Kid Kart class, 3mi max).

ii)                   Qualifying will determine grid for the Heat.  There is NO invert for 2008.

iii)                 Grid for main is established by the finishing position in the Heat race.

iv)                 Winner of the Final is the overall winner.

B)     All Tracks will use computer transponders for timing and scoring.

C)    Re-qualifying is not allowed unless necessitated by a timing system error.

D)    A driver must complete one full green-flag lap to receive points for that heat.  (Entrant must take the green flag and go through scoring at least once to receive points for the class entered for that event.)

E)     Tires used in Qualifying must be used in Pre-Final & Final.  (200.2) Exception:  If Rain conditions exist.  (200.2.2)

F)     DNF will Grid before DNS and DNS will grid before DQ.       

G)    NO warming or scrubbing tires.  Tire scrubbing will be grounds for DQ.

H)    80cc Shifters refer to IKF Shifter Rules (Sec. 250 Sprint Shifter Kart Div.)

9)      Restarts:

A)    All restarts will be at the discretion of the Starter and/or Race Director.  90-second rule shall apply.  No “pushbacks” once the kart meets the racing surface. (210.8.1)  (Shifters see 250 Sprint Shifter Kart Div.) 

10)   Red Flag:

A)    In the event of a rollover or accident requiring medical attention a MANDATORY “Red” flag will be shown.  All corners will also display a waving yellow flag.

11)    Ambulance or EMT:

A)    A certified EMT-1 with equipment and communication devise will be required at all IKF events.  (105.1.1)

B)     Any track where the response time is over ten minutes, an ambulance will be required at the track at all times in addition to the EMT-1.

C)    The EMT-1 must have proof of certification available at the track.

12)    Entry Fees:

A)    The entry fee will be $100.00 per driver for the first class and $85.00 for the second class if purchased on the same day, which includes the driver’s (participant) pit pass and two (2) gallons of fuel/oil per entry.  Four Cycle class entries will get a $2.00 refund, for each SEALED UNUSED spec oil container returned to the NCTA Treasurer.

B)     Non-participant one-day pit passes are $10.00 adults and $6.00 child under 12 years of age.   

C)    Non-participant entire event pit pass are $15.00 adults and $10.00 for child under 12 years of age.

D)    For those tracks holding Friday practice – Practice fee is $30.00, except Infineon, current Infineon prices will prevail.

E)     No refunds of entry fees of that day’s event once official practice starts.

13)    Spec Fuel Rule:  (601.1)

A)    For the 2008 IKF season, all classes will use Spec Fuel and oil (if required) as supplied at each track.

B)     Each track will have a designated area for the fuel concession where the fuel will be available during practice,  (601.1.1)

C)    The spec fuel for 2008 is 110 leaded.

D)    The spec oil for 2008 is Burris Castor (part # BMC 902)

E)     Competitors are responsible for having an approved, clean, plastic fuel container, (free of contaminates) to receive their fuel the day of the race.  (601.4.8.1)

F)     Fuel and Fuel with Oil packages will be sold at $12.50 per gallon from NTCA, first two (2) gallons included in the entry fee.  Prices are subject to change due to market conditions.  Additional fuel tickets may be purchased from NCTA treasurer.

G)    For each class entered, a participant must purchase a minimum of 2 gallons of fuel and upon completion of purchase, fuel vendor will supply participant with a purchase verification sticker that must be placed high on the Nassau Panel of the participants Go Kart.  Karts will be checked for Fuel purchase sticker prior to entering track for qualifying.  Karts without fuel purchase sticker will be prevented from Qualifying and will be awarded last place qualifying and grid at the rear of their respective heat.

H)    It is up to each participant to determine how much fuel they need for the entire day’s racing.

I)       As many as three tests may be used at the track to determine the legality of the fuel.  The tests may include, but are not limited to: color comparison with day’s sample, water/alcohol test, water test, Digitron comparison with day’s sample, NHRA fuel test.

J)       Anyone circumventing the fuel rules may be suspended from participating in any NCTA (Nor-Cal) and or IKF event for a minimum of one year.  (114.5.5)

14)  Numbers and Reserved Numbers:

A)    Numbers on karts are awarded on a first registration basis, except for the following;

B)     A driver, may reserve a kart number in a chosen class for the entire season by paying Nor-Cal a fee of $20.00 14 days in advance of the schedule  race.  Details see ikf.region11.com.  This supersedes 14a and takes precedence at all IKF Region 11 sprint races.

15)    Alcoholic Beverages: (114.1.4)

A)    Consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in the pit/paddock area during all race activities including practice days:  this rule applies until the last checkered flag is dropped each day of the event.

B)     Glass containers are discouraged.

16)   Trailer Parking:

A)    Each host club/promoter will determine their own trailer parking procedures.

17)    Race Series Points and Awards:

A)    The Nor-Cal IKF Region 11 schedule for 2008 is Nine (9) races; eight (8) of the nine (9) races count towards the championship, one throwaway.

i)                    DQ’d races may not be used as a throw-away.

B)     To qualify for year-end jackets and awards a driver must complete a minimum of eight (8) of the nine (9) events.

C)    Points will be kept using divisional scoring as shown in the IKF Rule Book.  (800.12)

D)    Each club will mail copies of the grid sheets to the IKF Office within one week after the event.

E)     Each club will send points to Region 11 Coordinator and NCTA secretary within a week of the event.

F)     Point Sheet must include the competitor’s full name, address, club affiliation, and IKF number so that the NCTA Secretary can maintain current IKF mailing list.

G)    Each club is responsible for paying NCTA and IKF fees:

i)                    One check is to be sent to the NCTA CFO, for $40.00 per entry per class made payable to “Nor-Cal”, ($10.00 Nor-Cal  awards fund, $5.00 for Tech and Race Director and $25.00 fuel ticket reimbursement.)

ii)                   And TWO separate checks to IKF.  One for $1.50 per entry per class made out to “Region Point Fund” and a second check for $3.00 per entry per class to cover sanction fees.

H)    IKF memberships must be sent to IKF within one week after the race.  (104.18)

NorCal Regional Option Classes for 2008 

                   Kid Kart:

1.      All events will be run as per 2008 IKF Rulebook for competitive Kid

      Kart rules, section 208.3 thru 208.3.17. Rule 208.3.11, Weight will be

      150lbs. Rule 208.3.17, engine technical regulations will be enforced.

2.      Kid Kart Age: Must be at least five (5) years old on race day. You can

run all year as an eight (8) year old, but you can not turn nine (9)

years old during 2008. Parents must be able to provide a copy of birth

certificate at registration at any NCTA event during 2008.

3.      Parents/Guardians and Kid Kart drivers will attend a mandatory

      training meeting with the Race Director prior to any practice or race as

      per Race Director discretion. Failure to attend the training meeting by

      either parent/guardian and/or driver will result in disqualification for

      the event.

4.   All Kid Kart helmets must be inspected in pre-race tech with helmet

       on driver.

5.      All Kid Kart races are “Standing Start”.

6.      Tire: Bridgestone 4.5X10.0X5 YHC. Max 20psi hot, tested as karts come off track.

7.      There will be a specified gear ratio, see 208.3.9 in your 2008 IKF

Rulebook.

8.      Chest protectors must be presented at pre-race tech and fitted on driver to allow check for proper fit. An A-Grid check for chest protector will be enforced.

                  TaG Jr:

1.      Approved motor packages for 2008: Jr Rotax, Jr Leopard only (Region

option).

2.      All other rules per 2008 IKF Rulebook for Jr TaG.

      HPV 4 Jr:

1.      Same as 2007 Rules.

      TaG Sr:

1.      Approved motor packages for 2008: Rotax, Leopard & PRD Fireball.

NorCal National Cup motor package may run in TaG Sr at 380lbs.

NorCal National Cup technical specs are per 2007 IKF Rulebook,

Section 676.

      IAME Cup:

1.      Approved motor package for 2008: IAME Leopard. 2008 IKF TaG technical specs apply. NorCal National Cup motors may run in IAME Cup for 2008 at 385lbs. NorCal National Cup technical specs are per 2007 IKF Rulebook, Section 676.

     NorCal National Cup Masters:

1.      Weight: 375lbs

2.      NorCal National Cup Masters technical specs are per 2007 IKF

Rulebook, Section 676.

                  Formula 80 Masters:

1.      Tires: Bridgestone YJL

2.      Silencer: RLV or M4 14” (mandatory for Infineon race only) may be

used at all NorCal ’08 races, if desired.

                  Fuel:

1.      110 leaded for ’08 season. (Note: Unleaded fuel will be mandatory in

’09 for all classes at IKF sanctioned events).
